Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community's most marginalized members. This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd Non Profit Homes - Toronto Reporting to the Program Manager, the Addictions Counsellor works as a member of a dynamic team of individuals to assist in enhancing the dignity and quality of life in the lives of adults who experience problematic substance use, other addictions, as well as the effects of homelessness within our community. At all times the Addictions Counsellor uses all available resources to provide the best service possible. The Addictions Counsellor will demonstrate a compassionate, non-judgmental and patient demeanor when working with clients to develop a level of trust so they feel secure in being supported to reach their highest level of skill development possible. This level of trust will be established and maintained by involving the client as much as possible in discussion around their goals and recovery process. How You Will Make an Impact This position is a full-time, client-facing position. Establish a comprehensive backssment and a service plan with tenants including referrals, as appropriate. Supports activities geared toward establishing and maintaining healthy lifestyles with a particular emphasis on relapse prevention, community engagement, and life skills development.
